Two animal paws were found in Central Park, part of what appears to be a ritualistic ceremony, NYC Park Advocates has learned.
The ASPCA is investigating the gruesome discovery after a park patron discovered the remains in the north end of the park near 110th Street at about 1 p.m. on Monday, agency spokesman Joe Pentangelo confirmed.
ASPCA responded and removed the find. They resembled dog paws but the species is still undetermined. Forensic veterinarians from the animal care group are working to determine the species animal remains recovered.
The remains were found in a bag that may have been made from an animal skin or carcass according to the New York Post.
The ASPCA is asking anyone with information on this case or other animal-cruelty cases to call its tip line at (877) THE- ASPCA.
"Animals can't speak for themselves," said Mr. Pentangelo.
