A cricket game turned violent in Flushing Meadows Corona Park when a man was beaten by an angry mob NYC Park Advocates has learned.
A group of between 20- 30 men surrounded the man and attacked him using three different weapons including a cricket bat just before 2:00pm on Saturday according to law enforcement sources.
EMS transported the twenty-eight year old male victim with head trauma and stab wound injuries to New York Hospital (Booth Memorial Hospital).
The victim was stabbed with a sharp metal object which narrowly missed puncturing his left lung. He was also beaten with a sharp wooden object and a cricket bat, striking his hip, legs, back, torso and head.
The incident stemmed from a disagreement during the game in which a player was ejected due to an illegal play on the field. The team protested and became unruly causing the entire team to be ejected and the game to be forfeited.
That is when the team and their supporters allegedly came back on the field and beat the victim.
It is unclear at this point whether the person attacked was a player or an umpire.
