Central Park: Suspect Wanted In Several Robberies Caught

A man wanted for several recent robberies in Central Park was caught on Friday.

Police arrested parolee Cecil Richards, 55 of E. 30th Street who was also wanted in a series of mid-town robberies.

On May 23rd,  a 16-year-old was robbed in a brazen daytime robbery in Central Park. The incident occurred on a park path near 79th Street and Fifth Avenue at 4:00pm.  Richards sat next to the victim on a park bench and demand his money.  The thief got away with $18.

In another daytime robbery a 17-year-old male was walking inside Central Park in the vicinity of 60 Street and the East Drive on April 10, 2015, at 11:50am when Richards grabbed the victim by the shoulder and simulated he had a gun.  He demanded his money.


The thief got away with $ 20 dollars.

Richards has an extensive criminal background having been arrested more than 30 times, according to police.

Richardson was charged with attempted robbery, unlawful imprisonment, and harassment, police said.
