Attempted Rape Of Jogger In Riverside Park

Mahattan

Police are looking for male involved in an alleged sexual assault of a female jogger inside Riverside Park between 122- 125th Street on Friday evening, NYC Park Advocates has learned.

The alleged victim is a female Asian, age 24. She was trying to leave the park at 6:00pm when she was approached by a man from behind. According to police he choked her and threw the woman to the ground and attempted to rape her. Bystanders scared the assailant off.

The suspect was wearing a blue baseball cap and back pack, both with a Nike “swoosh” logo at the time of the attack.

The victim was treated at St. Luke's Hospital.

Police are looking for a hispanic male 35-40, five feet, nine inches tall and weighing around 180 pounds.

On Friday night police had expanded the search area with dogs south to 110th Street according to an NYPD official.

Riverside Park had the third highest number of major crimes reported in a city park in 2011- behind Central Park, 101, and Flushing Meadows Corona Park, 47.
