Attempted Rape Of Boy 11, In Bronx Park

By Geoffrey Croft

A man tried to rape an eleven-year-old boy in Bronx Park on Tuesday.

The boy was with friends at the Teamo Bodega at White Plains Road and Gun Hill Road at 3 p.m. when he realized he had to pick his younger brother up from school at PS 41.

He started walking on Magenta Street when a man came behind, put the child in a headlock and said, "do you have any money? Follow me, I have a knife," according to the police.

He walked the boy west to Baker Avenue and turned north on Baker to Bronx Park.

The older man pulled the child into the park, across a field and under a tree.

He asked the child again for money who said he didn't have any.

The attacker punched the boy in the face, took his book bag and searched it, finding no money.

He punched the child again in the face and told him to lie face down in the grass where he pulled the victim's pants off and mounted him from behind.

The  child told police he struggled and pushed the man off him, causing the attacker to fall back and hit his head on the tree.

The boy broke free and fled the park. He ran into a woman walking on Duncomb Avenue and her what happened and asked her to call 911.

The NYPD Child Abuse Squad is investigating this as an attempted criminal sex act on a child.

The assailant is described as a male black, 17 to 19 years old, 5-ft-8 to 5-10 tall, light skin, blue hoodie, white and blue air Jordan sneakers. He was wearing True Religion brand jeans.

Police located video that shows the child and the man walk into the park together but video is not clear enough to ID the attacker.

Tuesday's attack in Bronx Park was near a fifteen-year-old girl was savagely beaten and sexually assaulted in October.

In that attack the assailant punched the young girl in the face and dragged her into the park where she was choked to unconsciousness several times. The victim sustained severe facial and head injuries including a fractured jaw, missing teeth.

Several days later police arrested Shaun Lewis, a 27-year-old Bronx parolee.  He was arrested for Assault, Attempted Rape, Strangulation, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Forcible Touching according to officials.
