Closed for renovations? What renovations?
A DUMBO waterfront park was shuttered at the beginning of the year for a reconstruction project, but advocates and neighborhood residents complain that no work has been done - leaving them locked out for no reason, according to the New York Daily News.
Cash-strapped park officials said they were getting ready to start construction, but conceded a lack of funds kept the park closed all winter and into the spring.
The Daily News checked Empire Fulton Ferry State Park every day for the past week and saw no work going on.
"It's crazy," said Doreen Gallo, executive director of the DUMBO Neighborhood Alliance. "They could have left it open until they were ready to start work."
The $3.5 million makeover includes adding a carousel to the New Dock St. park, installing lighting so it can stay open later, improving drainage, expanding the lawns and adding benches, tables and bike racks.
But residents say none of that has happened.
