Brooklyn Bridge Parks' Burning Domes Replaced With Playhouses

Park officials finally removed three steel climbing domes that scorched children's hands at the new Brooklyn Bridge Park's Pier 1 playground. The park is being designed by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates.
The domes were removed Friday and a construction crew was installing the new equipment Tuesday. Work should be done by this weekend.
"I think that's fantastic. I wouldn't want anyone to have to go through what we went through and see their child suffer," said Karen Spolar, 35, whose 13-month-old daughter Paula suffered second-degree burns on the domes last month.
"I just wish they had done something about it months ago...and didn't wait until something serious happened." The News first reported that children were getting hurt on the domes in April.
