50 Trees Uprooted In Van Cortlandt Park

Approximately 50 newly planted trees were uprooted and a small fire was set in Van Cortlandt Park at Van Cortlandt Park East & 238th St. The condition was discovered yesterday at approx. 3:00pm. The saplings were pulled out of the ground and strewn about in an area filled with beer cans and illegal energy drinks. One sapling was burned in an adjacent illegal camp fire. - Geoffrey Croft

Species ID. The trees came from the Greenbelt Native Plant Center on Staten Island.
