After various delays – including a push by a group of tourists to save a 1923 section of the old Yankee stadium – the City's Design Commission finally gave Preliminary Approval of Heritage Field on Monday afternoon.

It still ain't over till its over.

That's the vow a group of Yankee fans made Tuesday after losing the latest - and possibly final - battle with the city to save Gate 2 at the old Yankee Stadium according to the Daily News.

The city Public Design Commission on Monday granted preliminary approval to the Parks Department's plans to commemorate the old Yankee Stadium - without retaining Gate 2.

Now the Gate 2 fans say they will pursue legal action to save it from the wrecking ball.

"I'm definitely going ahead with an injunction," said group member Tim Reid, 55, of Boca Raton, Fla.

The entire stadium is set to be demolished by June to make way for a Heritage Field Park.

The Parks Department plans to commemorate the House that Ruth Built by putting in engraved plaques and preserving elements of the stadium frieze and the famous bat statue outside.

BROOKLYN

Borough President Marty Markowitz’s drive to build his new $64 million “Coney Island Center” at Asser Levy Seaside Park will not go forward until an environmental assessment is done, according to The Bay News.

The mayor’s office confirmed this week that the Design Commission will not vote on the amphitheater project without benefit of the assessment.

Borough Hall had hoped to begin construction on at least part of the park project by now, even though it remains unclear whether the overall plan will ultimately be subjected to the Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP).

Design Commission Vote Delay On Markowitz's $ 64 Million Asser Levy Amphitheater

Brighton Beach resident Ida Sanoff addresses the Design Commission on Monday night at City Hall. The playground reconstruction vote relating to Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz's proposed $ 64 million amphitheater was tabled by the Commission after much community opposition.

BROOKLYN

The city’s Design Commission today opted to hold off a key vote for Coney Island’s $64 million amphitheater project after irate opponents gave commissioners an earful over the controversial plan, according to the New York Post.

The taxpayer-funded, 8,000-seat amphitheater plan for Asser Levy Park is a pet project of Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and also includes the relocation of the park’s playground.

Many opponents expected the commission to sign off on the new playground design today and the amphitheater design at a later date. But after hearing testimony from opponents, commissioners opted to table the vote until they could review both parts of the plan simultaneously. This, because, the amphitheater can’t be built unless the playground is relocated.
