Police Catch Purse Snatchers In Prospect Park

Three teengers allegedly punched a pregnant woman in the face for her cell phone and snatched a 60-year-old woman's purse in Prospect Park on Monday, but the trio was quickly nabbed by the commanding officer of the 78th Precicnt, according to Park Slope Patch.

According to an NYPD spokesman, two 16-year-olds and a 12-year-old tried their hand at two victims. First, the suspects allegedly approached the pregnant 28-year-old woman at around 12:10 p.m., hit her in the face and then tried to snatch her iPhone, to no avail.

Minutes later, the suspected thugs approached the 60-year-old woman, on Flatbush Avenue near Grand Army Plaza, stole her purse and ran, cops said.

Police, including the 78th Precinct's Deputy Inspector John Argenziano, arrived to the scene while the 60-year-old woman was screaming in Russian while chasing after two teenagers who were dashing away with her purse.

Paul Nelson, the spokesman for the Prospect Park Alliance, applauded the 78th Police Precinct.

"The commanding officers are always proactive and out in the field, they do a great job," Nelson said. "They stopped the robbery and arrested the kids."

In March he nabbed four tenneagers after they snatch a BlackBerry from another teen.

According to the New York Post, The 16-year-olds, who are from Brooklyn, were charged with grand larceny. The charges against the 12-year-old were not released.
